5 Comfy Flats to Wear If You’re Working from Home…
Writing this piece is the first order of business for me this morning… but before I sat down to write I did three things that are crucial to a day of productive work for me…
- I did a set of morning stretches to get rid of all the kinks I woke up with…
- I hit up my south Indian filter for my morning cup of coffee…
- And I changed out of my beloved jammies and chappals into a pair of comfy but nice trousers, blouse and slipped on my favourite flat sandals…
After over a year of working remotely from my desk at home, I have realized that if I don’t do this morning ritual, my day disappears with little work and little energy to do it with.
The first few weeks of work from home, I did what any smart lazy person would… Lounged around in my nightie or jammies all day with a laptop on my knees staring off into space endlessly… I could not get my brain to switch on. I was disorganized and chaotic in my thoughts and my tasks.
It took a bit of trial and error until I realized what the problem was… And now I pass this hard-earned wisdom onto you, dear reader…
For the sake of your sanity and productivity…
Here’s What Not to Wear While Working From Home
Your pajamas. Your beloved flowy nightie. Your sweats. Your slappy chappals.
While these may be the comfiest of all outfits, psychologists seem to unanimously agree that staying in your jammies and sweats all day while working from home is hugely detrimental to your productivity.
Research also shows that people feel more competent when wearing shoes. Getting dressed for work is a physical ritual that helps us prepare mentally to get out there and be productive. And it is more than that – it is a way to express your individual style.
Here’s what happens when you change out of your home clothes into work clothes even when working from home…
- You feel more energetic and mentally sharp
- A transition ritual like dressing up helps separate your ‘home’ and ‘work’ mentally
- Completing a morning routine helps you start the day with a sense of accomplishment
- If you have children or family at home, it signals you are working and shouldn’t be disturbed
All fantastic reasons to get changed into real clothes every day before you set your laptop in front of you… but don’t worry… you don’t have to give up comfort at all!
Dressing up doesn’t mean dressing stiff
